Section 1: Getting Started

Profile Selection

This is the first screen you will see the first time you start up Kid-Capsule.

You will have the option of adding a new profile, deleting or selecting an existing profile.

You will get here by tapping the button in the Profile Selection screen.

You must fill out the required fields in order to move on.

After you tap the button you will be taken to your newly created Profile.

View and Edit Profile

You will get to this screen by either selecting or creating a profile.

Here you will be able to view all your little one's information, go to their photo or video galleries or edit their information.

While in edit mode a few things will change:

You will have the option of changing the profile image by tapping the thumbnail and selecting a new image from your device's library.

By tapping a field you will be taken to a new screen where you will be able to edit information you have already added or fill in new information.

Tapping the button saves all your changes.

Section 3: Events

Creating New Events

You may create new events by tapping the button from either the Category Navigation Screen

or the Category Event Screen where there are two display options: List (left) or Calendar (right) .

While in calendar mode, the date will be preset to the selected date. This can always be changed if you wish.

After you have filled out the information, tap the button to create your event.

If you do not wish to create an event at this time, tap the button to cancel. This is a permanent operation, all the information will be lost.

The only required field when creating an event is the Title. Don't worry if you forget something while creating your event, you can always edit every field afterwards.

Navigating Event Categories

Here you will find all the categories and sub-categories available to you.

Tap the to expand a category and view it's sub-categories.

Tap the to collapse a category.

By tapping on any element in the Category Screen you will navigate to that element's event list.

  1. By tapping the first element on the list, you will view all the events you have created for the current profile and will have access to the media galleries associated to these events.

  2. By tapping a category, you will view all the events you have created for all it's sub-categories and will have access to the media galleries associated to these events.

  3. By tapping a sub-category, you will view all the events you have created for that particular sub-category and will have access to the media galleries associated to these events.

By tapping on any of the previous screens, you will go to the calendar view of that particular event list.

If you tap on a date with a on it, you will view all the events in that category for that date.

Tap on the calendar header or the to return to the calendar.

Viewing Events

After selecting the event list you are interested in, tapping on one of the items on the list will navigate to the event detail screen.

The badge on the top left represents the major category this event belongs to. It is not a button, it is merely informational.

For information on sharing events, go to Section 5 of this Help

For items that have longer content, such as is the case with description, simply tap the item and a pop-up with the full content will appear.

This pop-up is read only you will not be able to edit the contents here.

Tap on the to close it.

Editing Events

Tap on the button to enter edit mode.

For information on adding media, go to Section 4 of this Help

While in edit mode, the event details will be indented and you may tap on any item to edit it's contents.

Once you tap the item you wish to edit, the appropriate input device (e.g. keyboard) will appear. Tapping will make the keyboard disappear.

Deleting Events

Tap on the button to delete the event.

You will be presented with a warning prior to deleting the event.

Event deletion is a permanent action. You will not be able to undo this operation or retrieve the deleted event.

Any images, videos and places associated with the deleted event will still be available to you.

Section 4: Media Galleries

You will find the media gallery buttons throughout the application.

Every button has a green badge with the number of photos or videos in the gallery.

  1. Profile: The galleries will display every photo or video you have added to the current profile through any part of the application. If you add a media file at this stage, it will not belong to any event until you link it afterwards.

  2. Category Event List: The galleries will display every photo or video associated to events classified under the selected category or sub-category. You may not add media at this stage, the galleries are view only.

  3. Event: The galleries will display the photos and videos associated to the event. At this stage you may add new (camera) or existing media (iPhone library or profile gallery).

  4. New Event: The galleries will be empty because it's a new event. At this stage you may add new (camera) or existing media (iPhone library or profile gallery).

Gallery Toolbars

Media galleries have two toolbars:

Top toolbar: This toolbar will not be available if you are viewing an event list gallery

Tap to add preexisting media.

Tap to take a new picture or movie (not available in all devices).

Bottom toolbar: This toolbar will only become active once you select a thumbnail from the gallery.

Tap to get a closer look at your media.

Tap to view a slideshow of your images or to play your movie.

Tap to remove your media from an event. This button will only be available if you are viewing an event's media gallery.

Adding Media to Events

When you tap to take a new picture or movie, your device's camera will become active. Once you are satisfied with the results accept the new photo or video and it will be added to your gallery.

A copy of the new photo or video will be added to your device's photo library.

When you tap to add preexisting media, you will have the option of selecting media that you have already added to your profile or media from your device's library.

Selecting Device Library will open your iPhone or iPod's photo album where you can import one (1) file at a time. Once imported, the media file will be copied into your application's directory.

Selecting the Profile's Library will open your current profile's gallery where you can select multiple images at a time.

Tap after you have selected the images you want associated with your event and you will be taken back to the event's gallery. You will see that the selected images have been added to the gallery.

Tap again to go back to your event screen.

Viewing Galleries

When viewing a gallery you have several options, seen here on the bottom toolbar. In order to activate these options, you must first select a photo or a movie.

When you select the media you would like to work with it will be highlighted with an orange border.

The options you have are: View , Slideshow and Unlink

Back to Viewing Galleries

Tap , for a closer look at your photo or movie and other options.

The options you have are: Edit or add caption , Share and Delete

If you are viewing a movie, you also have the option of tapping to play it

Tapping takes you back to your gallery.

Edit or Add Caption

Back to Close Up View

Tap to view, create or edit your media's caption.

Tap to cancel any changes and keep the previous caption.

Tap to save any changes you have made to the caption.

The caption will appear at the bottom of every photo in a slideshow and will also be used when you share your media files via email or Facebook.

Save or Share

Back to Close Up View

Tap to save or share your photo or video.

Saving will put a copy of your photo or video in your device's photo library.

Delete

Back to Close Up View

Tap to delete your photo or video.

Once you accept, this operation is final, the media file will be removed from your application's library.

If you had a duplicate of the media file in your device's library, this copy will not be touched.

Slideshow

Back to Viewing Galleries

Tap , to enter slideshow mode if you are in a photo gallery or playback mode if you are in a movie gallery.

Unlink

Back to Viewing Galleries

Tap to unlink the selected photo or video from the current event.

You will only have access to this option if you are inside an event gallery. You will not see this button if you are viewing the profile gallery.

Section 5: Sharing

To share an event or media file look for the button.

You may share any event or media via email. Facebook movie sharing is still in the works.

You must be connected to a network for these operations to complete.

After tapping the button you will have the option of sharing your event through email, Facebook or Kid-Capsule

Email

Back to Sharing Events and their Media

You will have the option of sharing any type of media via email, as long as you have linked photos and videos to your event.

Tapping photo or video will open the appropriate gallery and prepare the media that will be attached to your message.

After tapping your email composer screen will appear as seen here.

Your message will have 2 parts:

  1. Event details: This is pure text and you may edit every field as you wish. This will be the full content for your email if you decide not to send a media file.

  2. Media: When emailing a photo, it will be sent on a special layout highlighting the event. All the event details will be at the bottom of the layout and you may not edit them as they are a part of the image.

After sending your email you will return to your event screen.

Facebook

Back to Sharing Events and their Media

You will have the option of sharing photos via Facebook, as long as you have linked at least one to your event.

Tapping photo open the appropriate gallery and prepare the photo that will be attached to your post.

After tapping Kid-Capsule will try to publish to your Facebook account.

If this is the first time you are publishing to Facebook with Kid-Capsule, you must authorize the application to do so.

After posting to Facebook you will return to your event screen. This operation may take several seconds depending on your network connection.

Your Facebook posts will be split in 2 parts:

Your image will be posted to a special album dedicated to Kid-Capsule

Your event will be posted to your wall. If you have added an image with your event, clicking on will take you to that image.

Kid-Capsule

Back to Sharing Events and their Media

This feature was introduced in version 1.2 of Kid-Capsule it is a way for family and friends to have your little one's events on their own device.

Kid-Capsule will package your event in a file which will be sent via email and can then be imported by the recipient into their own Kid-Capsule.

Kid-Capsule is not a social network. Nobody else will have access to your information. For more, visit our FAQ or download our Privacy Policy

You will have the option of sharing any type of media via email, as long as you have linked photos and videos to your event.

Tapping photo or video will open the appropriate gallery and prepare the media that will be attached to your message and exported to a special kca file.

Your message will have 4 parts:

  1. Import instructions: This is pure text and you may edit as you wish. This section contains instructions for the recipient to import the event you are sending them into their own Kid-Capsule.

  2. Event details: This is pure text and you may edit every field as you wish. This will be the full content for your email if you decide not to send a media file.

  3. Media: When emailing a photo, it will be sent on a special layout highlighting the event. All the event details will be at the bottom of the layout and you may not edit them as they are a part of the image.

  4. KCA File: This is a special Kid-Capsule file that will contain the event details and media to be imported by the recipient.

After sending your email you will return to your event screen.

When you receive a shared event from a Kid-Capsule user your email will have a kca file attached to it. You will easily recognize it because you will see the Kid-Capsule logo on the attachment while viewing it on your device.

Tapping on the file will prompt you to open it in Kid-Capsule.

Once you open the file, Kid-Capsule will launch and you will be presented with the Event Import Wizard.

The wizard will guide you through the steps to import the event.

You can always cancel the process by tapping

Once you finish and the event has been imported, you will be presented with a success message.

When you tap the OK button, you will be taken to the event screen.

The imported event will be a replica of the event that the sender has on her device including the child's profile, the place and the media files that were attached.

Sharing Media

After tapping the button while in Close Up View you will have the option of sharing your media file through email or Facebook much like you did when Sharing Events

The differences when you share media files directly from within a gallery are:

  1. You will not share any event information.

  2. If you are sharing a photo, the image caption will appear on the bottom of the layout instead of event information.

Sending Birth Announcements

After tapping the button on the Profile Screen you must tap the birth announcement button and you will be presented with the option of sharing your announcement through email or Facebook

Similar to Sharing Events you will be prompted to select an image for your announcement.

Your emailed birth announcements will look like the images on your right.

Your Facebook birth announcements will look like the images on your right.

Section 6: Places

When creating events you have the option of adding a place.

By tapping on the corresponding field you will navigate to the Place Selection and Creation Screen.

Here you have 2 lists:

  • All: will show every place you have added to the application

  • Nearby: will show geo positioned places that you have added to the application and are near your current location. Your current location will appear as the title of this screen.

Tapping on a place on the list will take you back to your event list with the selected place filled out.

Adding a New Place

To add a new place, you must fill out the name in the top field and tap

Before returning to the event screen, you will be prompted to add the current coordinates to the newly created place.

If you decide not to, the newly created place will not be geolocated and will never appear in the Nearby column.

In order to assign the current coordinates to the new place, your device's Location Services must be on. To do this, go to your iPhone or iPod's Settings >> Location Services and switch them on. You must also allow Kid-Capsule to use Location Services by switching that option on too.

Editing Place Names

To edit a place's name, tap at the bottom right corner of your screen.

The items in the list will become active and you may tap the place you want to edit. Once you do this, the keyboard will appear and you can change your place's name.

Tap and your changes will be saved.

Editing Place Coordinates

Back to Top

To change a place's coordinates to your current location, tap at the bottom right corner of your screen.

The items in the list will become active and you may tap the beside the place you want to edit. Once you do this, you will get a message asking you to confirm your changes.

Tap YES and your changes will be saved.

Deleting Places

Back to Top

To delete a place, tap at the bottom right corner of your screen.

The items in the list will become active and every place on the list will have a button on the left. Tap this button and a button will appear on the right of the corresponding place. Tapping this button will show you a warning. Once you accept, the operation will be final and your place will be deleted. This operation is irreversible.

Tap to return to your selection list.
